2013 William Hill Bench Chardonnay $41.50
()
Vineyard Notes: “The Chardonnay grapes were harvested by hand and then gently pressed as whole clusters to maintain their varietal aromas and flavors. The grape solids were left to settle overnight to add complexity and style to the wine. Primary and malolactic fermentation were completed in barrels to enrich the mouthfeel and add further complexity to this Chardonnay. The wine was aged sur lie for an average of 15 months using 77 percent new oak (70 percent new French oak) and 23 percent neutral oak.”
Winery Tasting Notes: “Napa Valley’s finest vineyards to display intense fruit flavors and layers of complexity. Our William Hill Estate Bench Blend Chardonnay has complex aromas and flavors of ripe tree fruit, sweet pear and baked apple, framed by notes of toasty oak and caramel. This full-bodied wine offers layers of brown spice, with a rich mouthfeel and a lingering finish.”
“Wine Enthusiast” Review (91 pts): “Decadent in caramel-toffee oak, this full-bodied wine has a generous helping of hazelnut and ginger cookie at its heart. Hefty in oak yet wrapped in enough acidity, it’s balanced and easily enjoyed. The finish echoes in whiskey and wood.” –Virginie Boone
“Wine Spectator” Review (91 pts): “Offers a rich, complex fruit basket of fig, apricot, melon, green apple and citrus flavors, folding together in a stylish manner, with a good focus and a long finish, accented by a pithy citrus texture.” -James Laube
