As you know Carpe Vino works hard to find you small production, groovy wines but this time we outdid ourselves. In this month’s club selection you will be receiving the inaugural vintage of Carrier Pinot and baby is it a good one. Twelve years in the business brings you a lot of contacts in the biz which happened to lead us to Eben Drucker, co-owner of Carrier Pinot Noir. We have been working with Eben since 2002 when we purchased wines through a broker he worked with out of San Francisco. Today, Eben co-owns “Spotlight Brands” which represents many outstanding small California producers including; Arietta, Caraccioli Cellars, Pelerin, Peay, Schoolhouse and Vineyard 7 & 8. If that wasn’t enough, Eben decided he needed a brand of his own and this past year created Carrier Wines.
Carrier Wines is a story about two old childhood friends who stumbled their way into the wine business and ultimately reunited. As youngsters, both were avid Pigeon racing fans and maintained large flocks of racing “Homers.” Having rekindled their friendship, memories of their years spent racing pigeons came flocking back. They created Carrier Wines in honor of the Carrier pigeons that served in the armed forces. Heroism and bravery earned those winged warriors recognition, while the elegant structure, ripe cherry and cassis notes are sure to earn this Carrier its own acclaim.
Carrier wines are made in tribute to PDSA Dickin Medal recipient Carrier Pigeons who are recognized for outstanding acts of heroism and bravery in the armed forces.
This wine is 100% Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands and even though we can’t disclose the winemaker…you can figure it out if you look at that list of wines above hard enough. Only 225 cases of this beauty were made and it “sold out” in less than two months…so as we hope you enjoy this bottle we only had enough for wine club so you won’t be able to get more until next vintage!
