Welcome to Carpe Vino’s Wine Club Tasting Notes Online, where each month you’ll find information about all of our current selections. After wines have been billed and are ready to be picked up or shipped, Wine Club members will receive an email notification. Simply select the club in which you are enrolled below. You can view the tasting notes online, download a PDF and view notes for other clubs. The best part is all notes are archived, so if you cellar your wines, you can come back and locate any tasting notes.

Wine pricing shown with the notes is full retail; wine club pricing is shown on your receipt when you pick up your wine. We hope you find this process helpful and easy to use. And for your privacy, your membership information will be kept confidential. Carpe Vino does not share our information with any outside companies or other organizations.

Winery Tasting Notes:  Aromas of brambleberry, Black plum, Vanilla and cinnamon bark rise from the glass . Richly layered with intense blackberry, lavender, red licorice and leather. Rich and mouth filling, ending on a velvety finish.

Blend: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Syrah
Alcohol Level: 14.6%
Maturity: Drink now – 2023

Winemaker: Lupe Maldonado and Hugo Maldonado

Pairings: Stuffed Pork Roast, with brown gravy, Brisket, blue cheese

Fun Facts: Founder, Lupe Maldonado was named vineyard manager for Newton Vineyard in 1971. With Newton, Lupe found a home where he proudly dedicated all his energy for over thirty years. His son Hugo succeeded him in 1999.  The Maldonado Winery consists of a cave nestled in the eastern hills of Calistoga California. The cave is home to all aspects of wine production, as well as barrel aging.

Winery Tasting Notes: Intense black cherry, currant, and raspberry overlay mineral, cedar, and baking spice notes. The palate finishes dry, earthy, and satisfying.

Pairings: Spicy shrimp jambalaya, mussels and sausage, Olive tapenade

Fun Facts: Calatayud, is a high and arid plateau between the villages of Acered and Atea and bordering the Sierra de Santa Cruz. At 1000 meters above sea level this is the highest part of the DO of Calatayud. Even more interesting is that the soil here is pure schist, the same soil one can find in the Priorat and in Maury.

Winery Tasting Notes: Aromas of ripe blackberries and cola. The deep and round palate is an explosion of various fruits including rip plums and berries. There’s plenty of acidity and tannins but the fruit is in the forefront of the mouthfeel.

Blend: 100% Pinot Noir
Alcohol Level: 14.3%
Maturity: Drink now – 2024
Winemaker: Ed Kurtzman.

Pairings: Bechamel macaroni and cheese with shaved truffle. Baked salmon with lemon,and dill sauce

Fun Facts: Ed Kurtzman has been making wine since 1994 where he got his start in the cellar at Bernardus in Carmel Valley, California under the guidance of Don Blackburn and Kirby Anderson. From 1995 through 1998 Ed moved across Monterey County to Chalone Vineyard where he was enologist and then assistant winemaker under Michael Michaud.  Ed had the good fortune of meeting future August West partners Howard Graham and John Peterson while he was winemaker at Testarossa for the vintages 1999-2002.

Winery Tasting Notes: The robe is light yellow with bright highlights, of medium intensity. The disk is bright, limpid and transparent. The wine shows a pleasant youth. The nose is frank, pleasant, open and racy. One perceives a dominant of fruity scents, citrus fruit, lemon, floral scents, white flowers and a fine touch of spice, ginger.

Blend: 100% Pinot Blanc

Pairings:  summer salads embellished with langoustines ,Japanese cuisine shrimp sashimi

Fun Facts: The Les Princes Abbés range is the Schlumberger family’s tribute to the Abbots who were the first to sell wine from Guebwiller. With a single holding of more than 300 acres in Guebwiller, Domaines Schlumberger is the largest Grands Crus producer in Alsace. All Schlumberger wines are estate-grown.

Winery Tasting Notes: “Engaging aromas of lemon verbena, honeysuckle, Bosc pear and a hint of hazelnut are carried by the bright citrus notes of pink grapefruit, lime and Meyer lemon. With a creamy, yet light texture, flavors of tangerine, pink grapefruit, golden delicious apple, pear, thyme and a saline character linger on the palate through a long and bright finish.

Blend: 100% Chardonnaya
Alcohol Level: 14.1%

Pairings: Sauteed Chicken in creamy dijon sauce.  Fettucine with herbed butter and lemon.

In addition to our forty-six acres of vineyards you will find sheep, pigs, chickens, geese, dogs, cats, turkeys, deer, vegetable gardens and fruit orchards, all working harmoniously together to enhance the well-being of our land and ultimately, the well-being of our people.  Our “bio farm” approach allows us to reduce our carbon footprint by limiting all outside inputs and making use of natural nutrient cycles, just as farming was prior to the advent of chemical applications.
