ABSOLUTE MUST FOR FATHER’S DAY!

A PERFECT MARRIAGE OF BOURBON AND PRISONER WINE!

This is an OPPORTUNITY you absolutely cannot miss, and we are “over-the-moon” excited scoring this rare gem to offer you!!!  So…buckle up because we’re going to make this story quick!

Being in the vino business for almost 20 years, we have several tools we use when it comes to sourcing new wines for the restaurant and bottle shop.  In no particular order the best tools tend to be; visiting/travelling to wineries, tasting with our brokers/distributors, work of mouth and lastly, print/online media like Wine Spectator.  Now, we don’t live and die when it comes to the scores provided by periodicals, but they definitely provide a good perspective and bring attention to wineries we may not be familiar with yet.  Interesting thing is, when it comes to magazines like Wine Spectator, by the time you receive the “print” issue, the wines are already gone, because subscribers are able to receive an email weeks an advance with ratings/write-ups about wines that will be in the next issue!

So, now being in the “spirits” business and subscribing to Whisky Advocate (owned by parent company of Wine Spectator) you would think the same model is in play…but, it’s not!  Yesterday, we were scrolling through the new WHISKY ADVOCATE SUMMER 2020 edition and stumbled upon this review for the Bardstown “Prisoner Wine-Barrel Finished Bourbon” and said, “THAT WOULD BE PERFECT FOR OUR SHOP!”  Thinking this would comparable to ordering wines after reading Wine Spectator, we called our rep and were expecting the ole response, “HA…that’s been gone for weeks!”  AU CONTRAIRE, MON FRERE!!!

Now here is the thing…this Bourbon isn’t available in all 50 states.  In fact, it’s only available in FOUR states; Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois.  It’s also available in HALF of TWO other states; Northern California and Southern Florida!  SO, WHEN WE SAY WE TOOK THE ENTIRE INVENTORY FOR CALIFORNIA…WE MEAN IT!

Other than the fact this is a true UNICORN, here is what else you need to know:

  • MASHBILL: 84% Corn, 8% Rye, 8% Malted Barley
  • 9-year-old Tennessee bourbon finished in the Prisoner Wine Company’s French Oak red wine barrels for 18 months.
  • TASTING NOTES – A complex, welcoming bouquet of blackberry and black cherry blended with aromas of rich honey, vanilla, and baking spices. Hints of the original premium grape blend take the lead on the palate with a touch of sweetness, turning to a ringing, balanced finish
  • 92 Points – Whisky Advocate

92 POINTS – WHISKY ADVOCATE

(We Purchased Last 22 Bottles in California – Only 17 Left!)
